BRIÑAS 09: A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!!
Last September, the students of 2nd ESO A and B went together to Briñas to participate in a project called: "Citizenship, Solidarity and Cooperation" organized by the BBK. They spent 4 days there and these are some of the reflections they want to share with you about their experience. If you are at 1st ESO, you will be able to take part next year, for others (3rd and 4th year) it´s time to recall sweet memories...
- Adriana Rubira, 2ºB: When we were on the bus going to Briñas we were all very nervous. We were going to a BBK´s programme about citizenship, solidarity and cooperation. When we arrived, our activity leaders divided us into three groups: Parliament, Africa and Latin America. The last one was my group. We played the role of people from Honduras. (...)
- Irene Barrenechea, 2ºB: (...)They told us that we would be workers from Honduras. We saw the situation of the Makilas ( places where clothes are made) and we worked in one of them. They let us know that poor people have a very hard life, because they have to work for a long time to earn a very small quantity of money. Then they showed us a barriada, the place where these people live. It was very small and there weren´t any hygienic conditions. After this experience, we realized that we are very lucky to live in this part of the world and that, if we work together, we can do everything we want to.
- Irene Goiria, 2ºB: (...) On Tuesday we played some games to learn some things about South American countries: their capitals, flags, curiosities,...The next day, (...)they took us to a makila. It is a factory where kids work under very bad conditions and low wages. Then we talked to the members of Parliament about poor children.(...)
- Garoa de Dios, 2ºB: (...) We went to Parliament to protest that the children shouldn´t be exploited. (...)
- Arrate Muguruza, 2ºB: Our activity leaders were Aitor and Andoni and we had a very good time with them. (...) We did a lot of interesting activities and we lived like poor children (...) It was so tiring! The last night the teachers and the activity leaders prepared a disco for all the people. I think that everybody had a very good time in Briñas!!
- Maialen Gamboa, 2ºB: (...) We realized that if we work as a group we can do all the things we want. We recreated the situation of the makilas, factories where a lot of children work in very bad conditions. It was a social activity in which we all knew ourselves better. Now I like Briñas so much!
- Leyre Ferrón, 2ºB: (...)We played different games to get water, light, work, rest, etc.(...) the team leaders explained to us where our clothes come from (...)
- Patricia Otogo, 2ºB: (...) I learnt a lot about life in other countries. We watched a film about the war between "Hutus" and "Tuttsis". It was very impressive and hard; its name was "Shooting Dogs". I think we are very lucky to live here...
- Maialen Gambra, 2ºB: (...) When we arrived there, some soldiers took our passports(...)the next days we did some projects like doing T-shirts, etc.(...); it has been one of the greatest weeks in my life!!
- Begoña Garrido, 2ºB:(...) This week has been one of my favourite weeks of my life. It was a very good experience and I learnt a lot.
- Andrea Núñez, 2ºB: (...) During the four days in Briñas we learnt with this project that in other countries there are millions of children living and working in very bad conditions and often the rich countries don´t help them to go out of poverty. With this project we have had the opportunity to spend a good time with our friends doing interesting games.
- Iñigo Arranz, 2ºB: (...) I also liked the activity in which we painted the T-shirt. We did all these activities in a group and it was a very nice experience. We also watched a film,"Shooting Dogs", which I thought was very interesting. (...)
- Claudia Icaran, 2ºB, very ironically tells us: (...) At night we slept very well and we didn´t make any noise. (...) WE HAD A VERY GOOD TIME IN BRIÑAS!!!
- Guillermo Fdez-Yarritu, 2ºB: (...) In Briñas I had a very good time. We went to the mountain twice and we played a lot of football and basketball. (...) The last day we jumped in the elastic beds(...).
- Jon Ander Quintana, 2ºB: (...) At night we went to the "ludoteka" and we played table tennis. The last night we went to the disco and it was so boring!
- Begoña Pérez, 2ºB: (...) The first day in Briñas wasn´t so much fun, but the next days were incredible! (...) My favourite activity was the disco.
- María del Palacio, 2ºB: (...) It was a beautiful stay. The food was not very good but the activities were fun and we didn´t study. These four days have been the best four days of my life. (...) We made friends in 2ºA. (...)
- Gonzalo Palacio, 2ºB: (...) The last night we went to the disco to dance and sing. Every day we played football in the playground and we went to the mountain.(...) We told jokes and scary stories the last night.
- Pablo Vadillo, 2ºB: (...) The last day we packed our suitcases, watched a film with the photos of the week and went home.
- Iñigo Aldecoa, 2ºB: (...) I had a very good time in Briñas.(...) We played some boring games and some funny games. The third day we went to a cave in the mountain.(...)The last day we came back very tired to Bilbao .

Now I know what FEAR is...
Everything started one late friday evening. My friends and I left the school thinking about our summer holidays and all the things we were going to do. But it was time to celebrate first, so we decided to go to the lake for a swim. As soon as we arrived, all of us went into the water. It was still hot and sunny and there was a nice smell of dry grass and flowers in the air. I went out of the water and lay on my towel. I closed my eyes and listened to the birds; I was feeling great! I started to imagine what the rest of my holidays would be like, so many plans... It was getting dark, so my friends came to tell me they were leaving. I was feeling so good that I told them to start without me; that I would catch them up in a couple of minutes.
I just can´t remember how long I remained there alone; no more than two minutes really when, suddenly, I felt someone grab my feet and hands and take me into a car. I stayed in the car for a long time, but finally they took me out and left me in a room tied to a chair. I tried to relax, thinking that it was one of my friends´jokes, but it wasn´t...
Two weeks had already gone and I continued in that room; it was getting harder and harder. I remembered then that I liked imagining things. "This will help me not to go crazy", I thought. I closed my eyes and imagined I was escaping, that I could find my friends and return home... All seemed so real that when I realized that everything was false, I started to cry.
Now I continue here in my prison, tied, alone... Now I know what FEAR is: it is not to see your parents, relatives, friends,... to know that you are alone and that for a long, long time you will probably continue like that.

Vicky is a fan of The Jonas Brothers and you??
THE JONAS BROTHERS
The Jonas Brothers are three teenage brothers from Wyckoff, New Jersey, that form an American pop band. The three members are: Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas. They became famous in Disney Channel thanks to Nick (it´s a long story...). And now they are very famous all around the world; children love them and teenagers and some adults, too!
They began this revolution when Avril Lavigne had a world tour and The Jonas were the supporting artists. Then they published their first single: "It´s about time" and later "A little bit longer", which was really successful. Last year they released a film titled: "Camp Rock", especially for teenagers. The film was about many people who wanted to be superstars. The actors and actresses were: Demi Lovato, Joe Jonas, Alison Stoner, Meghan Martin, Nick and Kevin Jonas and other people. This film was a box office success and the actors and actresses got very good reviews, too. Now the Jonas brothers are going to have a tour around the world and they are also going to come to Spain. They are coming to Madrid and Bilbao! So HURRY UP to buy the tickets (if you are a fan) because they will sell out very fast!!!
Vicky Parga Escalona 1ºA
P.S.: If you want to watch a video of The Jonas, click on the link to "Kids´Space" (the blogspot for primary) and enjoy "That´s just the way we roll" song. You´ve got the lyrics to help you, so you have no excuses: START SINGING!!
MORE NEWS ABOUT "THE JONAS BROTHERS"!!Casilda, a student from 2nd of Bachillerato, has sent us an e-mail to remind us that this Saturday The Jonas are playing in Madrid. A friend of hers has gone to see them and Casilda says that if she lets her, she will send us some pics from the concert to post in our blog. That would be great, Casilda! She also comments that she thinks The Jonas will be coming to Bilbao in November but she has to confirm this information.
Thank U very much for everything, Casilda!!

Tuenti, Spanish young people´s most popular website.
Tuenti is a website directed to the young Spanish people. It was created in 2006, by Zaryn Dentzel, an American student that now lives in Madrid. He came to Spain and some years later he created tuenti . First, it was directed to the people of a university of Granada, but after its success he decided to publish it. At present, tuenti is one of the most visited webs in Spain. You can have your own account only if somebody sends you an invitation.
What things can you do in this website? You can speak with other people, put photos or images about yourself and your family or friends, videos,... *and you can make comments about the photographs and write about other people´s tuenties. I made myself one member of tuenti because a friend sent me an invitation; I thought it was interesting and accepted. In my opinion, it should be for all the people around the world, not only for Spanish people.
JAVIER RIVERO and ANE ARANA, 2A.
*Now, I would like to know your opinion(s) about the following questions related to tuenti:
- Don´t you think you should be careful with the comments and things you publish in your tuenti?
- Do you think it´s a good idea to post photographs which are taken without the other person´s permission to make a fool of him/her writing funny comments?
- Can you imagine how he/she will feel?
- What about if it was your brother or sister, or simply a good friend of yours? How would you feel?
- Do you think it can have any legal responsibilities ?
Share your ideas and opinions with us. Send us an e-mail or come to the English and Social Sciences department and hand it in. We´ll be happy to post your opinions!
